Nike+

August 17th, 2010 A Comments off

So I really enjoy the sport of running it always seems to clear my mind so when geek mixes with running,  I’m one happy man. Not so recently Nike released the Nike+ system with some of their shoes and I haven’t quite tried it all out till now.  So just a month ago I picked up some new running shoes and they were Nike+ compatible I was way excited I had finally been able to get my hands on this system I had been drooling over for a while.

Basically Nike+ is a way to track how far your running how many calories you’ve burned and any overall improvement you have over time.  By sticking a small chip in your shoe you can receive the data while running with a watch that Nike sells or simply by jogging with your Ipod while listening to music, that is what I did. Apple has loaded into the newer generation Ipods the nike plus program that gathers the data recorded by the chip which is activated by movement so it doesn’t hog loads of battery. Then after running you sync your Ipod or watch with the computer and it is loaded up to Nike’s website where they organize it nice and pretty for you record you distance ever ran and your best run times. It’s a handy way to keep it all in one spot and you don’t hardly have to do any work just push play then when your done plug it into the computer.

I personally have loved having my new shoes that are Nike+ compatible I would recommend it to those people who don’t wanna spend oodles of money for other equipment that is even more expensive and honestly only marginally more convenient. If you don’t have a pair of nike+ shoes you can take buy the chip and a case to put the chip on your shoelace then off you go in your favorite pair of running shoes, it’s not quite as pretty as sticking the chip in your shoe but just as useful.

Ill wrap it up and just say if you have been looking for a way to keep track of runs and even to motivate yourself this really can be a great tool.

X Invasion 2 worth the size?

July 7th, 2010 A Comments off

So most people out there complain solely and most about X Invasion 2 and that fact it takes up more than a fourth of a gig on your iDevice. While this is definately annoying and in my opinion totally uncalled for, I think we can all agree we can look deeper into the game and see if it’s even worth the sit down and play through on it.

Score for the good guys! the f-22 alone makes this game worth it.

First of all this game comes currently with the pricetag of free this alone gives it a free point from me, believe me I won’t kick a gift horse in the mouth.  Despite many of the errors and mistakes that X Invasion 2 has it seems to have a lot of good in it as well. The graphics while a bit chintzy are really decent for the itouch/iphone playing field and the controls on it are very good. It responds to what you want it to do even if it is unrealistic with real flying in the fact that in real flying you can’t turn nearly as easily. The system does work fairly well especially as a beginner in the simulator world.

Lock on the target missiles away!

My suggestion with this game is to download the huge file to your computer because a lot of  devices  have been crashed by trying to download it straight to your device. Then sync your ipod afterwards. Play the game get used to it and then I would say clean the space off your device because it does take up a lot of space and does have a lot of flaws in the game it can be finicky and does get old very quickly, but who doesn’t love to just shoot up some aliens sometime. If  you enjoy this sort of game or would like to have a nice easy one to toy with this is a great game to pick up.

Mini Sqaudron! flight in your pocket?

June 1st, 2010 A Comments off

So when Mini sqaudron went on sale around Christmas of this last year I didn’t get it immediately, but eventually got some hours into it, and i must say this game is a very satisfying experience.

The Good-

Mini squadron really delivers if you are looking for a fast paced fun game, pop a squat and play for just a couple minutes of some awesome action packed all into this pocket sized game. With this the game features some awesome graphics lots of plane choices, and makes you want to keep playing and playing just to get all the unlockables.

The Bad

Mini Sqaudron doesn’t suffer from many faults besides those that come default with the iphone that fact that, maybe some of the graphics occasionally blur, but on my 2nd gen itouch things run great!.

The Speck Candyshell!

April 12th, 2010 A Comments off

With me recently getting an iTouch it’s been a priority with me to find the absolute best case I could so I ended up buying a few of the ones out there and seeing which one I liked the most.  In the end I have liked different things about every single one and have yet to have a definite winner, so far I think the Speck candyshell has done it for me though. With this case featuring a neat way of protecting and absorbing shock while not making it entirely rubber thus causing it to get aggravating with the silly thing gets stuck in your pocket. With the candyshell the thin rubber is coated by a hard plastic shell thus giving you the convenience of plastic casing and the some of the protection of a full rubber case.

Pros: I’ve been very pleased with this case it seems like the times that my iTouch has slipped out of my pocket or been dropped like every device does its none worse for the wear. I have absolutely loved how this case is a perfect mix between stylishness and durability, this case is absolutely fun and coming in four colors it gives you a little bit of choice with the iTouch in the iPhone version it has even more colors. I have really loved how this case has never been in the way of me using the iTouch for practical purposes or gaming and has not made it bulky either basically a great case for you device.

Cons: The only gripe I have is that the lining on the bottom of the case is thin within a couple months of getting the case strip above the headphone jack and docking port has broken off leaving other parts of the case to start breaking. The only other minor thing is that the rubber on the edges darkens quickly and shows dust.  I did not notice this at first, but it gradually has gotten darker and darker and you can tell this when I pop the iTouch out of the case and compare it to the rubber inside the case compared to the little bit showing on the edges it is obviously darker.

Eliminate Pro – the itouch’s shooter

February 18th, 2010 A Comments off

I had my brother recommend this game on the iTouch to me soon after I received my iTouch and I agree this game really did seem like the iTouch’s long lost first person shooter. Even without the tactile control of D pad this game is functional. When I first started playing this game seemed impossible, but it was simply a hard learning curve on learning the controls the high customizing of your own personal character is great as well as this game being on the great plus+ network ensures continued updates and functionality of this game.

Eliminate Picture

This game is highly customizable making it very appealing you create your own stratergy

The best news about Eliminate pro though is that it is completely free though that limits your plays a day without money to three times roughly every five or so hours and allowing you to buy more plays I feel that three times on this game really enough whenever I play it keeps the game fresh and some how it doesn’t get old when I pace myself like that.  The game consists of you playing three other real people live online which is surprising for the Iphone in my opinion that it can connect so many devices at once well.

Eliminate Picture

simple environments but surprisingly pretty for the iphone

The bad: Well you really can’t complain much about a free game, but the one thing I must mention is for anyone out there with an iPhone it is best to play eliminate in a hotspot because the 3g tends to be lag the game a bit for you in the experience of me testing things out.

Shadow Complex

February 18th, 2010 A Comments off

I was immediately excited when I heard about Shadow Complex on the Xbox arcade  first because the story line of the whole game was based as a fit in Orson Scott Cards empire series and secondly because of the gameplay itself.

Shadow Complex Screenshot

ready for this?

Shadow Complex is built like an original metroid it consists of your character wandering through a complex map finding all the assorted hidden things inside the game, with an added twist in this game your firing area existed on a three d platform so while you can only walk on a 2d plane you fire and interact in a 3d plain which could sound like it would get extremely annoying, I’m here to say its not. I picked up the demo for the game and played it over and over a few times through and couldn’t get enough and somehow it didn’t get old.

Shadow Complex Screenshot

Ready to kick revivalist rear!!

The great: This game really blew me away as I the game seemed like a finished piece of art and felt like a breath of fresh air in the gaming industry and for only fifteen dollars which may seem overpriced for an xbox arcade game it is definitely worth the money as this game seems like a highly polished game even if it is short for a full on console game. The graphics in Shadow complex are highly polished and very nice the whole game engine from unreal fits like a glove on the game itself it feels just right. The story is intriguing and believable in a completely video game way, but I always feel like figuring out some new way to use the abilities the game gives you.

Shadow Complex Screenshot

That's right just a normal guy not some genetically modified mumbo jumbo

The bad: While this game is a great package it’t not quite all roses the 3d shooting plane although great does give you trouble at times you sometimes get frustrated as you can’t aim at what you really want to. The story in this game is extremely short and could use more content if that was so i would have no problem paying 20 or thirty for this game and with more content I wouldn’t mind it as a full game.

The verdict 9.5/10

Elite Beat Agents!

February 12th, 2010 A Comments off

Can you keep up? I recently picked up this fairly old game that I realized we hadn’t reviewed. Considering my strange love of rhythm I knew this review had my name written all over it, just yelled A! at me.

Initial response: Taking Elite Beat agents out of the pack it was hooking pretty quickly I played through the game in just a few hours, but with multiple levels of diffuculty this game becomes absolutely impossible though insanely fun.

Elite Beat Agents Artwork

The good: It has a great selection of songs and generally is a good game. The stories accompanying the songs are actually fairly decent though I can see them getting old after things happening time and time again when trying frustratingly hard your one hundredth time to beat a level. This game in general has a quirkiness to it that makes you want to love it.

The bad: on this game there is a very limited selection of songs a very short story which is limited by the small storage memory of a DS game cartridge. The dialogue may get corny and sometimes get old and the rhythm of the game is hard to follow occasionally because of the masking of voices over the beat that you’re listening to.

overall impression: This game is really addicting you don’t get flustrated playing songs and when you do it makes you want to finish it that much more.

overall score: 9/10

Ghostbusters: a second take from a younger perspective ;)

February 11th, 2010 A Comments off

So I just recently aquired an Xbox 360 and I took my brothers advice and played Ghostbusters and my opinion completely agrees with his. I actually put off playing this title at first thinking it sounded so geeky and corny, but then I started playing and I couldn’t put it down  it was completely fun and addicting though it may be hard for kids that can’t competently button mash, but it definately functioned well and if you don’t want to take me or my brothers opinion go pick it up for yourself it’s old enough now that it can be found used for pretty cheap and if ya don’t want to dump that many bones rent it for cheap and find out for yourself this game that got far to overlooked in what a great fun game it is. Let someone scare you and feel like your about to pee your pants over a completely silly thing.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2

November 30th, 2009 A Comments off

So I recently walked into the local Wal-Mart with the intent of buying a long deserved game and had a hard choice to make for a DS game between Mario and Luigi: Bowsers inside story, and Kingdom hearts. Apparently I picked up Kingdom Hearts in the end when I decided I wanted something a bit different. I don’t regret the choice because this game was beautiful! Though the gameplay may have lacked a little bit or the things seemed to drag and become a little monotonous when I hit one of the cut scenes it became totally worth it. Never have I seen such great art on the DS. I was suprised I wasn’t looking at console graphics on this little handheld. The gameplay itself could tend to get ugly, but I could tell how much I thought  moments of this game utterly priceless.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Screenshot

First the bad, frames were choppy when a lot of stuff happened on screen I saw fps drop to nearly half of what it was normally running and I knew this wasn’t right in the least. The other thing about this game is that as you go on from day to day I found myself completely lost granted I haven’t gone through all of the kingdom hearts series, but I found myself begging for more plot and somehow not getting it at all. In fact as the game ended I found myself asking what the heck just happened I knew I’d liked the story, buttt I wasn’t quite sure what had exactly happened in it.  Also as you progressed in the game I got fed a little bit of story then got sent on four or five mindless missions that didn’t reveal anything. They felt were more like time fillers in the story and I found it hard for me to go back and complete things one hundred percent when I wasn’t learning anything more about the characters and was doing the exact same thing constantly, going into a world beating a few heartless only to come back. Over and over and over again or my all time least favorite mission, go collect random items then come back. I felt like I was really wasting my time even though for some people that could really be a upside to the game to me it made the game drag on longer than it should have.

Last, but most definitely not least the good, as I mentioned above this game has a stellar story as they fed me a little bit of story I asked for more and more and more to the point I really didn’t wanna go back and find the last treasure chest in mission 42 I just wanted to head forward in the game. Though the story is weird and quirky and I’ll admit the slightest bit cheesy it reminded me of the Square Enix I love with deep multi faceted charactered and weird off the wall events that made absolutely no sense at all, but somehow was amazing! Don’t get me wrong it could have been better but it definitely was a good reminder of the good ole days of gaming when it wasn’t perfect by far, but it was a great attempt at an amazing thing. I also will commend Sqaure for creating a different approach at stats and items, the game works by assigning a different block shape to each power or ability or level then slowly as your beat missions you unlock slots in your stat board and you are allowed to assign to abilities to the new empty tiles. It may not be perfect but I sure liked it it was fun and enjoyable and a fresh take on the old cut and dry RPG. Along with this system hours of replayablity were worked into this game by making it so you can hop back to any mission you have completed and do it over to earn challenge awards to get your cooler stronger gear for your character, while not something will be doing all the time any time soon I’m sure I will pick this game up just to try and see how much of the challenges and such I can possibly finish.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Screenshot

The Verdict: I really liked this game a lot though it did drag all the time story wise through the whole experience, even though I completely loved the story that was there. I personally put a lot on a good story and a battle system that works in any RPG that I play.

Score 8.2/10
