iPhone/ iPod Touch Review- Yard Sale Hidden Treasures: Sunnyville

June 19th, 2009 J

yardsaleMethod Solutions is a company that I have to admit at this point I really don’t understand.  Searching in the apps store for them you only get on hit, but on their webisite it seems as if they have many more.  Here is the thing though, there one game I found quite enjoyable.  $.99 on the Apps Store will get you Yard Sale Hidden Treasures: Sunnyville which definitely wins the prize for longest name that we have reviewed so far.  It also is a favorite for The Wife to play with me.

Yard Sale is basically a digital form of the Where’s Waldo? books that I loved when I was little.  Yes I actually really did just find that link in case someone needs a reminder of who Waldo is.  The story is a little silly, a magazine is doing a competition for homes and you are looking to spruce yours up so you can win.  What do you do?  Go to your neighbors yard sales to try and find stuff in their heaps of junk.  Each round has you finding progressively more stuff though only a small fraction will then be used in the decoration of your house.  I am sure glad I don’t have any neighbors with as many Yard Sales as go on in Sunnyville!

As you complete rooms you will then be asked to put things together, like a bench, or a chest that is made out of strange things like skis and barrels.  Surprisingly, the spray painting and cutting is a nice break up of the action of looking for things.  Sometimes it is a little tough to see the actual items that it has listed but often it is because you aren’t looking for the right version of the thing.  For example and arrow could me the thing you shoot from a bow, the word arrow, or an arrow pointing you in another direction.  This makes you feel silly but at the same time gets you thinking a little if you can’t find a word you start thinking if it could be something else competely.

The zooming actually works pretty well to so you can see lots of items!

Overall this is a great game to have on your device for $.99. I isn’t one that we can play for long periods of time, but like I said, The Wife enjoyed playing with me as well.  She said it reminded her of Mystery Case Files: Millionheir but I haven’t played it so I can’t say anything about that.  It is simple fun that anyone can play but don’t expect much for story or any noticeable difficulty beyond looking for something for a while.  If you take too long looking just use a star and move on!

Who should buy:

Casual gamers that like a game with enough changes that you can play it a while

Fans of Where’s Waldo?

Who should pass:

People looking an interesting story or a challange

Overall: 8/10 (The wife gave me the final number!)
